• Description

Really? Never played Pacman™?
This game is just like the old classic.

The purpose is to eat all food (those coloured dots, y'know) in a level, trying not to be catched by the guardians: the ghosts. Naturally, all three kinds of pills will make you invincible for a while: just haunt the ghosts when you swallow a pill, and you'll be able to eat those nasty runners! Keep in mind, though, that a single pill lasts no longer than seven seconds…

You can use any number of music files in the game (currently, the game supports MADI, MOD, all derivatives such as ProTracker, SoundTracker and the like, S3M, XM): three modules are provided. There are also about a dozen of wonderful "real-world" sound effects, which made the game so popular on MacOS®.

• System Requirements

BePac Deluxe runs on any BeOS® ready x86 machine under BeOS® R4.5. If you have BeOs® R4, you can still download version 1.1 from our web site.

Recommended configuration: a Pentium™ or better, with at least 16MB of RAM, around 3MB of disk space, a fast video card, external speakers -- although the game will run smoothly on machines without a supported sound card.

• Compatibility

Currently, we are not aware of any compatibility issues. We have tested the programme on both single- and dual-processor systems from Be™, Motorola™, UMAX™, and Intel™.

We can not assure this programme (as any programme) is free of bugs. Should you discover any specific problem, please report it to us via our email address (see below for more information).

• Shareware Issues

This programme is shareware, which means that if you use it, you should send us US$15, in order to access all application features. If you don't use it, please trash it. You can evaluate the programme as long as you like: there's no time restriction.
You can pay in cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or FirstVirtual. Use the registration application (called "Register DAPPSoft", included with this package) to fill out the registration form and send it to the specified address via email, standard mail, or fax. All instructions about payment handling and methods are given inside the "How To Register" document.

Pricing:
Single-user license: US$15.
Universities or companies site license: US$200.
World-wide license: US$800.

When you register, the registration remains valid for all future versions of BePac Deluxe. You will be notified of any product release (only if you provide us with an email address, though).
Upon registering, you will be allowed to play all of the level files found in the "Pac Levels" folder, for a total of over 2300 levels and 120 level files. The unregistered version supports only 30 levels for a total of 2 level files.

You may distribute this programme in any way you wish, but you have to keep all the documentation files with the programme. The package must be distributed totally unaltered. If you are going to include this programme in a shareware collection, either on CDROM or other media type, you must obtain our permission first. Feel free to contact us (via email, since we can afford to reply only via email).
You shall send us a complimentary copy of your collection, otherwise you will not be granted distribution permission.

• Legal Stuff

Please, read through the "Software License" document before using the programme.

• Version History

1.1.2 for x86, released August 30, 1999
* ported version 1.1.1 to R4.5/x86

1.1.1 for x86, released June 7, 1999
* ported version 1.1 to R4/x86

1.1 for x86, released June 4, 1998

* added support for S3M and XM music formats. Please note that MADH files, while supported in the PPC version, will not be recognized correctly under x86.

* it is now possible to shuttle the current music by clicking in the status bar.

* to start a new game, you can hit Space or Return on your keyboard.

[All these features will be added to the PPC version shortly.]

1.1, released May 15, 1998

* added graphics for big workspaces: if the user launches the game
from a 1028x768 or bigger workspace, the game will display an
800x600 window with the new graphics.

1.0.1, released May 7, 1998

* busted by the MIME Squad Men: fixed a highly illegal MIME type
in all of the game files.

* fixed a stupid startup bug: if the user typed Alt-Q to dismiss the
registration window, the programme would first complain and then
crash not very gracefully. Now, Alt-Q just quits the application.
However, if all fields in the window are not-empty, before quitting
the programme will display the usual "bad registration" warning.

* improved keyboard responsiveness, especially when playing
at high speed (more than 30 frames per second).

* actually included (at last... ahem) the "Register DAPPSoft" application
in the game archive.

1.0, released April 25, 1998

* first public release
